Hailing from South London, Smitha is a singer-songwriter releasing her debut EP titled “Belong,” breaking out onto the music industry a few years ago, not only locally but also internationally.
She began her career performing at open mic nights around London, as a solo act singing and playing the guitar. This led to festival slots eventually with a big key slot performing to a big audience of 10,000 people in 2017 on the main stage at Jimmy’s Farm Festival.
Smitha has written all the songs on the EP, “It was a cathartic experience, writing about, grief, love, and pain” she adds. “Belong” is the name of her debut single, the release took on a wider meaning for Smitha after the referendum and because that she purposefully made the track music video showing the landscapes in London including two incredible dancers to represent its beautiful diversity.
Doing great moves, one of her other tracks, called “Greedy Love,” was entered into the B-Side Project competition, which judges were Clean Bandit, Utah Saints, and Roni Size. She also co-wrote and sung the theme track ‘Running Free’ for the independent feature film ‘Adventure Boyz’ by award-winning film director Howard J Ford.
Smitha‘s musical style can be described as soul/pop with some retro vibes, her songs are emotive, heartfelt, and real. She has been known to silence the noisiest of crowds, here you can listen to her EP and figure out why.
